Thank you for visiting my platform ideas to improve the DeMolay experience for everyone. There is much work to do, and I am passionate about improving DeMolay. We will be releasing these on social media, but wanted to put them in one place for you to see and read. These are ideas, and I welcome your suggestions, feedback, additions, or deletions. Together, we can open doors to opportunity for all. Membership Growth: Membership growth is critical to our success in DeMolay. “Dad” Frank Sherman Land said it best, “to be big we must think big.” Too often, adults keep talking about membership and saying, “Bring in Members.” We must work to give our brothers the tools to help.
- Empowering our brothers to bring their friends by giving them tools and resources.
- Working to raise DeMolay awareness through marketing and public relations
- Working with the Supreme Council on unified marketing
- Stop one-size-fits-all programs, and customize programs to meet the needs of jurisdictions
- Working with jurisdictions to better refine their value proposition to future members.
- Expanding our current membership grant programs in both value and timing.
- Reach out to our brothers who are close to earning membership awards and encourage them to continue their path of excellence.
Membership Retention: We need to do a better job of retaining our members. We spend so much time on “recruit recruit recruit.” We need to think about what we are recruiting them into.
- Develop an easy-to-use program to improve membership retention.
- Bring back the birthday and DeMolay anniversary emails.
- Create recognition programs for those chapters with successful retention
- Expand the membership database to include retention programs
- Personalized “stay connected” outreach for members turning 18–21.
- Improved communication about scholarships, Improved International relations
- Moving the required graduation date for students who graduate after 6/15 (NY and other late-testing states/regions)
- Consider the costs of International Participation. No young man should be denied membership in DeMolay due to cost.
- Set up a donation page to offset admission costs.
- Current membership costs ($75) make 1.460% of the Bolivian Median Household Income as of 2024 (Wage.is), should be closer to 0.092% (The percentage of $75 in the median household income of the United States) – about $4.72
- Twin chapters to create bonds between chapters
- Schedule an international e-sports tournament
- Provide information multilingually
- Expand the DeMolay Hall of Fame to recognize non-Americans
Communication: Communication is key for us to be successful in sharing our successes, our challenges, and our opportunities. We live in 2026; we must use 21st-century technology.
- Expand the Discord Server to build on our past successes.
- Expand Discord access to include Sweethearts and other young women
- Continue the Congress Chronicle and examine quarterly printed publications.
- Schedule regular calls with Jurisdictions to share ideas.
- Develop an outward-facing communication tool to share our successes.
- Work to partner with the Supreme Council Committees to share ideas on growing membership.
- Develop special communications for Squires and Priory Members.
- Develop multilingual publications to ensure we are putting International in DeMolay International.
Programs: DeMolay International has great programming, but we need to expand it and make more people aware of it.
- We will expand our mental health programming offerings. Every DeMolay needs to be supported, celebrated, and embraced.
- We will continue with and expand our Membership Grant Programs
- We will continue with our community service efforts, including our service month
- We will expand Day of Comfort Recognition to share ideas and recognize the good we do in the communities.
- We will promote the PMC-MSA more.
- We will encourage Squires and Priory Development to ensure we have programming and activities for all ages.
- We will add more public ceremonies to meet the demands of the Active DeMolays.
- We will host a public ceremony writing contest for Active DeMolays to be considered for addition.
- We will explore adding new merit bars, including Entrepreneurship, Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security, among others. We are living in 2026, and our Merit Bars are from an older generation.
- International recognition programs for LCC and Representative DeMolay Completion.
- Explore ways to align sweetheart programming across states better better.
Empowering the Squires: As a former Squire, I know the value of the program, and a lot of our membership success in DeMolay has been because of this program.
- Foster Squire programs in jurisdictions without them.
- Create a Representative Squire Program.
- We already recognize adults and Active DeMolays with honors — why not create meaningful recognition programs for Squires, the future of DeMolay?
- Provide programming marketed to the Squire developmental age
- Include a Squire’s Corner in our publications.
- Create a Congress Committee to work on Squire programming.
- Expand public ceremonies beyond the Squire Crest ceremony.
- Create an International Squire of the Year Program
Empowering Priory: Priory provides a critical program for our young men and has been transformative in jurisdictions that have it.
- Bring back the Degree of Ebon for the jurisdictions that want it.
